From cruising to wandering: Lyon as your grand finale
Arriving by boat, hair dancing in the wind, champagne in hand… Not a bad start to a last day in France.
This American group wrapped up their Belmond river cruise with a final stop in Lyon, and I had the joy of documenting every moment — from historic streets to sunlit hills, sparkling toasts to quiet glances.
They stepped off the boat like in a movie. The Lilas glided along the peaceful waters of the Saône, sunlight reflecting off the facades, the colors of Lyon welcoming them in the distance.
An elegant pause in motion, just like the Belmond experience itself: intimate, refined, deeply human.
And I? A quiet observer capturing their last French chapter — the kind of story that unfolds effortlessly.
DISCOVERING, MARVELING, SLOWING DOWN
Streets, bridges, squares… and hidden gems
We strolled through Lyon, led by a private guide who mixed history and personality with just the right balance. From the Presqu’île to the hills, via Place des Terreaux and the iconic Passerelle du Palais de Justice, the group absorbed the city by living through it.
A shady stop, a passionate exchange, laughter mid-crosswalk, a moment lost in thought near a sculpture… These fleeting instants — those you could never plan — are what I live to photograph.
ON THE HEIGHTS OF LYON
Fourvière and the city beneath their feet
Up to the basilica. Silence settles over the group. Awe takes over.
The sun brushes the white stone of Fourvière, the towers reach into a vibrant blue sky, and the city stretches out below. They huddle together for the photo — that one image that’ll go on the wall.
We wander down through the gardens, past the Roman theater, and pause again. A final toast.
No one really wants it to end.
A TRUTHFUL TRACE
Not a postcard. A lived experience.
That’s exactly what I love to document — not the highlights everyone expects, but the in-between, the laughter, the conversations, the gestures, the sparkle.
This group gave me all of that. Their final day in France unfolded step by step, glass by glass, and I was there to turn it into memory.
A visual story of Lyon — elegant, vibrant, and full of soul.
